What Bible does Fr. Schmitz use?
Father Mike Schmitz will be reading from The Great Adventure Bible, which uses the Revised Standard Version- Second Catholic Edition (RSV-2CE) translation.
Do I have to use The Great Adventure Bible?
While you do not need a copy of The Great Adventure Bible (which uses the Revised Standard Version, Second Catholic Edition for the Biblical texts) to follow along, it is the bible Father Mike Schmitz will use for the podcast. Please note there may be differences in the text if you are using a translation other than the RSV-Second Catholic Edition. Bible translations sometimes differ in word choices, and in chapter and verse numbers, as these are not always standardized between translations.
Where do I get the daily reading plan?
You will want to get the free reading plan by signing up at ascensionpress.com/bibleinayear. You can also find other helpful Bible resources like The Great Adventure Bible and the TGA Bible Timeline Chart on Ascension’s website
The reading plan Father Mike will use for the podcast includes the entire Catholic Bible, cover to cover. Each episode will begin with Father reading 2-3 scripture passages, totaling approximately 10-15 minutes.
How long is each Podcast episode?
The average daily episode will be between 20-25 minutes in length, depending on the scripture readings in the official Bible in a Year podcast reading plan. The first part of the episode will feature Father Mike reading from Scripture for 10-15 minutes, and the second part of each episode will include 8-10 minutes of commentary and reflection from Father Mike.
Will I get lost if I miss an episode?
The podcast is designed for you to follow along at your own pace. If you miss an episode or fall behind listening, you can pick up right where you left off and still complete the reading plan at your own leisure.
For more information about the podcast, please email bibleinayear@ascensionpress.com
Do I have to start the program on January 1st?
The Bible in a year is available on your favorite podcast app. It is designed to be started at any point in a year. You do not need to have started on January 1.
Do I do this alone or is there a group I can join?
The daily readings and podcast will be done individually but beginning January 2023, Fr. Ramon and Deacon Peter Nixon will host an evening of discussion, reflection and prayer, twice monthly to help you finally understand all the pieces of the Bible and how they fit together to tell an amazing story that continues in your life today. These are not mandatory, and you don’t need to attend all. They are an invitation to provide increased understanding and community.
