Building Tomorrow Together:
Our Parish Expansion

PROGRESS CONTINUES WITH OUR BUILDING PROJECT

Construction Update - September 2006
Construction sign

September 8th, we submitted our building project documents to the City of Concord for review and processing. This is a substantial step forward. The City will now take approximately thirty days to review the documents. We will then begin the in-depth review and planning meetings with the City that should be completed around the end of the year.

The new design includes classrooms for Faith Formation programs and a Catholic school for Kindergarten through 8th Grade; a Parish Office Building; landscaping, sound walls, additional parking and related improvements to the physical plant. The project includes removal of the existing parish portable classrooms. The existing church, rectory and hall will remain. The buildings will be of commercial-quality, pre-fabricated design, fully ADA-compliant with stucco exteriors.

The project requires the accomplishment of three objectives:

  1. Obtaining a building permit from the City of Concord
It is our intent to be through this process by the end of 2006.
  2. Acquiring adequate funding for the construction
Submittals to foundations for grants have begun. Formal Capital Campaign is planned for early 2007. The cost for the entire project is $3,572,000. If you are interested in working on the campaign. Please contact me at 672-5800 x 2205 or by .
  3. Completing construction
The core planning group will begin meeting again in September to address the issues of construction.
The utilization of pre-fabricated buildings provides a stream-lined construction process. The anticipated construction time is six-months. The desire is to erect all buildings at one time. However, if funding comes in phases, the first construction will be the Learning Center followed by the Administration Building. Construction is scheduled to occur in 2007 and is expected to take six-months to construct.

THE BUILDING PROJECT PLAN

The new design includes classrooms for Faith Formation programs and a Catholic school for Kindergarten through 8th Grade; a Parish Office Building; landscaping, sound walls, additional parking and related improvements to the physical plant. The project includes removal of the existing parish portable classrooms. The existing church, rectory and hall will remain. The buildings will be of commercial-quality, pre-fabricated design, fully ADA-compliant with stucco exteriors.

The Learning Center is designed around a rectangular courtyard. It will be comprised of six buildings: each 47' x 40' (total 1880 square feet); one building for restroom facilities (480 square feet), a courtyard and a play area. Each building includes an operable dividing wall creating a total of ten classrooms, each designed to seat 35 occupants and house the school administration offices. The courtyard will face the present church, sitting on the west property line. Attractive landscaping will grace the resulting interior courtyard. A children's play area will be constructed adjacent to and south of the classrooms. The Learning Center's primary purposes will be for youth Faith Formation programs, ministry meetings and the Catholic school. The school will enroll -Kindergarten through 8th Grade with a capacity of 350 students. It will be equipped with state-of-the-art technology learning tools. During the school day the rooms will be used for Kindergarten through 8th Grade education. Outside of normal school hours, the rooms will be utilized for other needs including ministry meetings, faith formation for adults and Faith Formation for public school children.

The Administration Center will be a 4,800 square foot, single-story structure that will contain the main parish reception area, parish administrative offices, and two conference rooms. It will sit on the north property line, parallel to the current Administration/Hall building. An additional parking area will be constructed north of the new Administration Center.

The cost for the entire project is $3,572,000

WHAT'S NEXT?

After countless City requirements, expenditures and inflation, the dream of our initial campus design is not realizable. However, we continue to need adequate meeting room space, classrooms for Faith Formation, Youth Ministry and scouting and renovated space for gatherings, kitchen, bathrooms and offices.

Our architect, Harlan Krusemark has developed a set of preliminary plans with new portable classroom meeting spaces and a new administration building.

We have met with the City of Concord to discuss our scaled down plan that is based on buildings of a modular design. They see no significant issues. We are moving forward in our discussions and planning phase with the City.

We should have concrete answers within a couple of months.

YOUR GIFTS

Donors who gave to our first campaigns solely for the purpose of the Catholic Grammar School are understandably disappointed that we cannot realize that dream at this time. But, the dream cannot be realized without a large infusion of money, like $12 Million. After calculating parishioners who have moved or canceled their pledge, we have been able to raise $4.1 million in pledges. Of that, over $2M has been spent on the new entrance and roadwork that was required before we could build a Catholic School and nearly $1M was spent on Pre-Construction costs.

In a very real way, the donations and pledges have gone to the Catholic School project. The monies collected have been spent on the entrance and the architectural, engineering and city fees related to the entire project.

The unpaid pledges are needed to pay the final payments on the entrance and leave us money in the bank so we can proceed with our "Hyundai" model.

Ways to Give:

Gifts of Cash, Check or Credit Card:

Simply complete a pledge card. Just click on this link and print. If you're making a down payment, please make the check payable to St. Bonaventure Church. You can also make your payments via charge card - just fill out the information on the back of the pledge card. You can mail your card and check to the parish office or place it in an envelope marked Capital Campaign and drop it in the Sunday Collection Basket.

Gifts of Stock:

You can use your own broker/agent to transfer and sell stock to the campaign.

Appreciated Securities: If the stock has been held long term (over one year), you do not have to pay capital gains tax on the stock and are allowed a tax deduction for the full value of the stock, provided that the stock is first transferred to the parish before being liquidated. In many cases, the tax savings may be more than your original investment in the gift.

Depreciated Securities: You can sell stock that has declined in value and claim that loss on your tax return. Then, donate the cash from the sale of the stock and, of course, claim a charitable deduction on your tax return for the amount of the gift. A professional stock broker can assist you in making these types of gift.

Gifts of Property:

You can make gifts of real estate or personal property. This can be in the form of a house, land, car, etc.

Gifts of Life Insurance:

You can make gifts utilizing life insurance policies. Usually these are whole life policies. These policies accumulate cash value which can also become part of the gift. Policies should be paid for life or have enough cash value to pay for the life of the policy.

Remember:

  • Gifts are Tax Deductible
  • Credit Card Payments can earn miles or points

prayer for our parish campaign

O God, you are the master designer and builder. Without your life and energy, we cannot exist. Without your aid, we cannot build. And without the help of your people, we can accomplish nothing. You have given us a dream to continue your work of building a world of justice, goodness, and peace.

Bless the work of our hands and the generosity of our hearts so that these centers of learning, community and leadership may be effective instruments, producing your light and truth for generations to come. Bless the parishioners who give generously from what you have given them. Bless our parish family who will use what will be built.

May your divine protection and guidance bring to fulfillment what we begin in your name. We hope and pray through Jesus Christ our Lord…..Amen
